Cure for the Comparison Bug

August 30, 2018

I see you. You’re over there doing the best you can but can’t seem to immerge from your slump. What’s happening? The moon? Your cycle? Nope. You dig deeper. You look harder. You find that you’re in a downward spiral because you see everyone else around you living this happy, abundant life while you’re sitting behind your phone feeling like an absolute mess. »» Aaaand there it is. You have just discovered that you are in full blown comparison mode. You caught the bug. Unfortunately, these days it’s hard to identify once we’ve caught it because of how attached we are to what’s going on in the “real” world of social media. It’s almost become a normal state of being. We look at Instagram as if it’s our new reality and are conditioning ourselves to believe that our lives need to look filtered and exciting even during the times when they are not.

Enter self-sabotage.

The more I work with women the more I see how this is effecting our self-image. And I want to call it out. I also want to share some of my practices that help me when I find myself slipping into comparison mode. Because guess what, coach or not, I am human. I have shitty days, too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
º Create boundaries on how much screen time you’re getting each day. Monitor the time you spend scrolling and then cut back.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
º Do not pick up your phone first thing in the morning. Instead, get in some movement or listen to an upbeat podcast.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
º Notice what accounts trigger you and unfollow them. How can you raise the vibe on the people/influencers you follow?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
º Get off your phone and into your body. Move. Flow.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
º Take care of yourself. Fill up your self care cup consistently.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
º Cheer women on. Root for the women around you to feel good + cultivate success WITH you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
º Tune into what makes YOU happy. We spend less time envying what we don’t have when we’re grounded in what we do have. Lean into the beautiful vision you’ve created and cultivate gratitude for what surrounds you.
